NEW HORIZONS CREDIT UNION AWARDS $5000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS TO DESERVING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

June 30th, 2023 Lizeth George Lizeth George Alabama, Credit Union News 0 comments

(MOBILE, AL) New Horizons Credit Union, once again, proudly awarded five deserving high school seniors with a $1,000 scholarship as part of the 2023 New Horizons Credit Union Scholarship Program which is based on academic achievement, community involvement, and essay responses.

New Horizons Credit Union’s Scholarship Program has been going strong for over 21 years awarding over $80,000 in scholarship dollars. To qualify for consideration, a student must be a graduating high school senior and have a New Horizons Credit Union New Wave Youth Savings Account.

This past year, most schools resumed full classroom education as opposed to virtual instruction. This helped get the scholarship information out better and more students to apply. There were many extraordinary students which made the decision difficult.  But, in the end, five students stood out amongst their peers the most. The 2023 New Horizons Credit Union Scholarship winners are:

Sadie Miller of Saraland High School will be attending Coastal Alabama Community College.

John Price of Daphne High School will be attending the University of Alabama.

Greta Sutton of Saraland High School will be attending the University of the Cumberlands.

Lydia Van Cleave of Van Cleave Academy -Home School” will be attending the University of South Alabama.

Anna Martin of Davidson High School who will be attending the University of Alabama.

The winning students were either contacted individually or through their high school’s guidance office for recognition among their peers. Each awardee was also sent a New Horizons Credit Union Certificate of Achievement to add to their college portfolio.  The winners’ desired college will receive a check in the student’s name to be applied to their college costs.

Edith Franklin, President/CEO of New Horizons Credit Union, comments, “We are so proud of our New Wave Savers and all the applicants of our scholarship program. New Horizons believes in giving back to our community – especially through education. All of the students should feel very proud of their accomplishments, and we wish them success in their pursuits.”

Information regarding the New Horizons Credit Union Scholarship Program and our New Wave Youth Savers Accounts is available at NewHCU.org.
