2nd Annual Builders Awards to Recognize West Alabama’s Community Service and Non-Profit Leaders with Awards Presentation

Tuscaloosa, AL – July 10, 2023 – The Alabama ONE Aspire Foundation will host its 2nd annual Builders Awards presentation on Tuesday, September 19 at the Alberta School of Performing Arts, presented by Tellerix. The Builders Awards precedes the Alabama ONE Aspire Foundation’s annual Bridge Builders Conference to commence on November 16, 2023, at Bryant Conference Center on The University of Alabama campus.

The 2023 Builders Awards nominees were selected by a nomination committee. “We are excited to celebrate the achievements of some of the best community partners and non-profit agencies in West Alabama at the Builders Awards!” said Jacquie Johnson, CEO of Alabama ONE Aspire Foundation.

Builders Award nominees have exemplified the spirit of service and have been a difference maker for the community. The 2023 Builders Awards Categories and nominees are as follows:

2023 Builders Awards Categories Nominees
Executive Director of the Year:

An Executive Director that always goes above and beyond for their non-profit agency

Karen Thompson – Jackson, Temporary Emergency Services
Kimberly Turner – Boys and Girls Club of West Alabama
Terri Bowman – Tuscaloosa Education Foundation
Carla Harris – Junior Achievement of West Alabama
Bridge Builder of the Year:

An organization that works well with other organizations and/or community partners to build bridges to resources for community members

American Red Cross
Tuscaloosa One Place
Kristen Amerson Youth Foundation
Center for Service & Leadership – University of Alabama
Volunteer of the Year:

A volunteer that is selfless and seeks to build their community through service

Deniese Spencer
Briana Houston
Whitni Molden
Jheovany Gomez
Educator of the Year:

An educator that serves both their students, school, and community with excellence

Christy Hackerott- Teacher, Northside Middle
Teresha Jones- Principal, Central High School
Tommy Flowers- Teacher, Holy Spirit Catholic School
Cody Martin- Teacher & Coach, American Christian Academy
Kingdom Builder of the Year: Nominees from this category are churches, ministries, and/or worship centers that have a heart to serve their community SheSpeaks, Inc.

Hope City Church
Hightown Community Church

The community will vote to determine the winner for each category. Votes can be cast daily until July 30th at https://bit.ly/BuildersAwards2023. Winners we be announced LIVE! At the Builders Awards, hosted by Shannon Chandler on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at The Alberta School of Performing Arts from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Jacquie Johnson stated, “Alabama ONE Aspire Foundation is excited to highlight some amazing community partners that too strive to build bridges in our communities from West Alabama and beyond ensuring equitable access to resources for all.”

The Alabama ONE Aspire Foundation would like to thank Tellerix and Black Belt Outdoors for sponsoring the 2023 Builders Awards.

The 2023 Builders Awards are scheduled for September 19th, while the Bridge Builders Conference is scheduled to take place on November 16th. The Alabama ONE Aspire Foundation encourages all to mark their calendars for their 2023 events.
