Birmingham, Ala. – September 5, 2024 – APCO Employees Credit Union renamed its branch at 6400 Tattersall Park Drive to honor long-time employee and CEO, Derrick E. Ragland, Jr.

Earlier this year, Ragland was named Alabama Professional of the Year by the League of Southeastern Credit Unions. In addition to this award, the APCO Employees Credit Union Board of Directors wanted to honor Ragland and his contribution to the Credit Union. It was decided, and unanimously approved by the Board, to rename the APCO Tattersall branch as the Derrick E. Ragland, Jr. Building.

Credit union industry leaders along with city officials and APCO Credit Union volunteers and employees celebrated the event with a building dedication on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.

Samantha Beeler, President of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions and Affiliates shared remarks to help celebrate this event. Of Ragland she said, “I will never forget the first time I met Derrick. We were at a credit union conference, and I didn’t know anyone. After meeting Derrick, I knew everyone. That is a testament to the leader he his and his long career in credit unions. It is the true embodiment of the credit union philosophy of people helping people.”

Longtime friend of the Ragland family, and City of Hoover Mayor, Frank Brocato also attended and said a few words to honor Ragland and his career. “Derrick’s outstanding leadership has undoubtedly earned him this recognition. His hard work is evidenced by the success of APCO Employees Credit Union and the success he inspires in those around him.”

This building dedication recognizes Ragland’s 42-year career commitment to APCO Employees Credit Union and its Members. Greg Shipp, Chairman of the Board of Directors, stated, “Derrick’s leadership and dedication have brought significant and positive changes to the Credit Union and its Members throughout his tenure. He has shaped the Credit Union’s future and will continue to inspire success for years to come.”

When reflecting on the honor, Derrick shared, “I’m not sure I can say this is a dream come true, because truthfully, I didn’t dream this big. I am deeply humbled by this building dedication in my name.” Ragland added, “Throughout my 42 years with APCO Credit Union, it has been a privilege to have the opportunity to positively impact our Members’ lives. Our Credit Union is a trusted friend to its Members, and partnering with them to reach their goals has been truly rewarding.”

The Tattersall location opened in the summer of 2020 and is one of two APCO Credit Union branch locations in Hoover.
