TAMPA, FLA. (February 6, 2024) — Suncoast Credit Union, the largest credit union in Florida, hosted the 14th annual Financial Football Tournament on Saturday, February 3rd in Tampa.

Eleven high schools competed in the football themed event that tested financial knowledge to win cash prizes for themselves and their school, totaling over $3,000. Participating high schools included Armwood, Brandon, Gaither, Jefferson, King, Middleton, Patel, Plant, Spoto, Sumner, and Williston Middle High School. Each team consisted of 4 students and the winners are:

1st Place: Plant High School ($1,500 total winnings; $250 per student, $500 to school)
2nd Place: Gaither High School ($900 total winnings; $150 per student, $300 to school)
3rd Place: King High School ($450 total winnings; $75 per student, $150 to school)

An additional $300 in prizes were given out during the event itself. In advance of the tournament, Suncoast provided the schools with resources and study tools to prepare teams for the competition.

“This year, our students came to win. The energy resonated from the very start, with multiple rounds going into sudden death, showcasing the depth of these students’ knowledge,” said Bob Hyde, Vice President of Community Impact, Suncoast Credit Union. “It’s always exciting when students are passionate and knowledgeable about finances, and students from all 11 high schools involved have bright futures ahead.”

Suncoast Credit Unions in-school programs introduce elementary, middle and high school students to basic money management concepts while providing them with hands-on learning opportunities. Contact youthoutreach@suncoastcreditunion.com to learn more.
