Democracy FCU Enhances Community Engagement Through Halloween Events

Alexandria, VA — Democracy Federal Credit Union (DFCU) reaffirms its commitment to community involvement through two Halloween-themed events: BOO Fest at the Charles Houston Recreation Center in Alexandria and the “Haunted Maze” hosted by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPDC) in Southwest Washington, D.C.

Located just steps from DFCU’s headquarters, BOO Fest gathered families for a celebration filled with games, food, prizes, and a lively Trunk-or-Treat. DFCU’s branded truck served as a candy and giveaway station, and the standout attraction—a giant “One Million Dollar Check”—drew crowds eager for selfies. This event highlighted DFCU’s belief that community connections are built through joy, service, and empowering information.

DFCU also participated in MPDC’s Haunted Maze event in Southwest, offering volunteers, giveaways, and resources to local residents. This partnership enables DFCU to support youth outreach while reinforcing its role as a trusted financial partner for families in the Southwest corridor.

“As a credit union, we’re founded in community service, being present in the neighborhoods we serve is non-negotiable —our work goes beyond accounts and loans, it’ starts with relationship,” said Andrena L. Smith, Interim President & CEO of Democracy Federal Credit Union. “Events like BOO Fest and the Haunted Maze allow us to engage with families, support youth, and build communities. This helps strengthen trust and expand access to financial tools for the future.”
