FSU Credit Union Becoming Champions First Credit Union

September 23rd, 2024 Lizeth George Lizeth George Credit Union News, Florida 0 comments

Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida State University (FSU) Credit Union will officially change its name to Champions First Credit Union effective October 1, 2024. The name change follows the credit union’s rapid expansion over the last five years, from serving primarily the greater Tallahassee market to now operating out of branches in five Northwest Florida counties stretching from Lake City to Pensacola, Fla. The brand change decision by the board of directors and management team came after nearly three years of internal and external research with both current and prospective members.

“We feel that not only does the name ‘Champions First’ accurately reflect our mission to be our members ‘financial champion,’ but it also communicates that anyone who lives or works in Northwest Florida is eligible for membership, not just those affiliated with Florida State University,” said FSU Credit Union’s President/CEO, Chuck Adcock. “With this new name, we can operate at a larger scale, creating new opportunities to develop innovative products and services for our members, while affording us more opportunities to give back and reinvest in the communities we serve.”

FSU Credit Union was founded in 1954 to serve the FSU community. In 2010, the credit union expanded its charter to serve members in the greater Tallahassee area. FSU Credit Union merged Perry-based Tree Capital Credit Union in 2011, Pensacola-based Gulf Power Company Employees Credit Union in 2019, and the Florida Department of Transportation Credit Union in 2022. Through charter expansion and these mergers, membership with the credit union is now open to anyone who lives or works in Bay, Calhoun, Columbia, Escambia, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Taylor, Wakulla, Walton, or Washington counties in the state of Florida.

FSU Credit Union was named Florida Credit Union of the Year in its asset category and recognized four times with the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award by the League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates as well as the local and national LouiseHerring Philosophy-in-Action Member Service Award by the Credit Union National Association for exhibiting excellence in community social responsibility.
