September 5th, 20180100Delta Community Credit Union recently awarded $7,000 to a non-profit that provides social support for local Latino families and children.
In a ceremony held at Delta Community's Vinings branch, COO Matthew Shepherd awarded the grant to Ser Familia, Inc., according to a Marietta Daily Journal article. The money will be used to support Spanish-language mental health counseling for Latino youth.

September 4th, 20181177Cobb County recently announced plans to buy the old Marietta branch of LGE Community Credit Union to become the headquarters for the Cobb County Police Department, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The Cobb County Board of Commissioners ratified the action of purchase and sale for $13,475,000 on Aug. 28. The closing was set to take place on Aug. 31, although LGE will be allowed to occupy the property for up to 24 months afterward.

August 30th, 201828106Hawaiian credit unions are recovering this week after they withstood Hurricane Lane last week and over the weekend.
Lane deposited more rain than any other tropical storm or cyclone in Hawaii's history, according to Weather.com. The downpour also ended up being the second-highest rain total in U.S. history by a tropical storm, dumping 52.02 inches on the islands. That's second only to Hurricane Harvey's 60.58 inches last year.

The award went to Fairfax Elementary School's fourth-grade teacher Theresa Sandberg, according to WRBL. The 20-year teaching veteran was nominated by Simone Floyd. Floyd told WRBL that Sandberg "is an amazing teacher who donates so much extra time to teaching her students."
Sandberg told the news station she's honored to receive the recognition.
