"Credit Unions operate differently from banks," the credit union asserted in a column that ran in Coosa Valley News. "They are not-for-profit organizations that usually serve a specific community. February 23rd, 20180123Nearly a dozen Illinois credit unions are now taking advantage of a loan program offered through a CUSO developed by Georgia Credit Union Services and three Georgia CUs, according to a CUInsight article.
Up until recently, state-chartered credit unions weren't allowed to invest in these sorts of loan pools.

February 22nd, 20180105CUNA President / CEO Jim Nussle recently weighed in against a bill in Iowa senate that would place an additional tax on credit unions.
Senate Study Bill 3197 would raise taxes on Iowa credit union members and reduce taxes on banks an their stockholders — many of whom do not live in the state. Nussle wrote a letter to Iowa Senate members about the proposed legislation on Thursday.
"It would make it more expensive for Iowans to access safe and affordable credit provided by not-for-profit financial cooperatives," Nussle wrote. "This legislation is bad for Iowa and we urge this body to soundly reject it."

The credit union based in Rome is planning to move its main branch, executive offices and operations center down the street to a new building where the former Northwest Georgia Credit Union once stood, according to a Rome News-Tribune article.
Coosa Valley CU obtained the property when it merged with Northwest Georgia CU in 2016.
Andy F. Harris, president and CEO of Coosa Valley CU, told the News-Tribune he expects the move to happen in the next three to five years.

The Cancer Coalition puts on the event each year to benefit cancer patients in south Georgia, according to an article in the Albany Herald. Money will be designated to continuing the coalition's health navigation and cancer screenings, education, community research and support for both the patients and survivors.

This spring, GSU's J. Mack Robinson College of Business recently will introduce a graduate mentoring program to help MBA and master's students build relationships with seasoned industry professionals. The six-month program uses an algorithm that examines factors including industry, years of experience, career goals and expected outcomes to match mentors with students.

The credit union out of Hinesville participated in an STEAM Celebration organized by the Hinesville Rotary Club and hosted by the Georgia State University
Liberty Campus. GeoVista presented a science art project called "Rainbow Spin," which a GeoVista press release described as "a fun way to mix primary colors to demonstrate color theory and to work in a little physics at the same time."
