September 5th, 20182198For the sixth consecutive year, Georgia Credit Union Affiliates has been named one of the state’s top trade associations in James Magazine’s September/October Lobbyist Issue. GCUA ranked No. 4 on the list of top associations, up two positions from last year.
GCUA Senior Advocacy Officer Brandee Bickle ranked No. 2 on the magazine’s list of the Top 50 Registered Lobbyists. This marks Bickle’s fifth straight year making the list. September 4th, 20181166Cobb County recently announced plans to buy the old Marietta branch of LGE Community Credit Union to become the headquarters for the Cobb County Police Department, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The Cobb County Board of Commissioners ratified the action of purchase and sale for $13,475,000 on Aug. 28. The closing was set to take place on Aug. 31, although LGE will be allowed to occupy the property for up to 24 months afterward.

The credit union recently made a $4,000 donation to GMC to award a student a 1-year scholarship. Tyler Sapp, a student pursuing his Associate of Science degree in Early Childhood Education, was selected as the recipient for the scholarship.

August 30th, 20182895Hawaiian credit unions are recovering this week after they withstood Hurricane Lane last week and over the weekend.
Lane deposited more rain than any other tropical storm or cyclone in Hawaii's history, according to Weather.com. The downpour also ended up being the second-highest rain total in U.S. history by a tropical storm, dumping 52.02 inches on the islands. That's second only to Hurricane Harvey's 60.58 inches last year.
CU Hawaii sits on Hawaii Island, where rainfall was heaviest, and took on two feet of water in the basement of its main branch on Hinano Street, according to a Credit Union Journal article.

August 27th, 20180235WRBL News 3 and Kinetic Credit Union presented this school year's first Kinetic Credit Union Golden Apple Award last week.
The award went to Fairfax Elementary School's fourth-grade teacher Theresa Sandberg, according to WRBL. The 20-year teaching veteran was nominated by Simone Floyd. Floyd told WRBL that Sandberg "is an amazing teacher who donates so much extra time to teaching her students."
Sandberg told the news station she's honored to receive the recognition.

August 27th, 20180158The Cherokee County School Board recently approved a partnership with LGE Community Credit Union that will "formalize the organization's financial sponsorship of several special CCSD events for students," according to a school board meeting summary.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that LGE Community Credit Union will provide up to $5,000 to sponsor a scholar recognition banquet and ceremony and will award a one-time $5,000 scholarship to a graduating senior.
