The Category 4 hurricane ripped through Florida and parts of Georgia on Wednesday and continued through to the Carolinas on Thursday, leaving a path of destruction in its wake. The league, which is based in Tallahassee, joined many of its credit unions in closing their branches Tuesday around noon and remaining closed through Thursday because of the state of emergency declared for Alabama and Florida, according to a Credit Union Times article.

The hurricane, which is slated to make landfall Thursday evening in states including the Carolinas and Virginia, already prompted mandatory evacuation orders for the entire South Carolina coastline. Portions of coastal North Carolina and Virginia are also under evacuation orders.

August 30th, 201828108Hawaiian credit unions are recovering this week after they withstood Hurricane Lane last week and over the weekend.
Lane deposited more rain than any other tropical storm or cyclone in Hawaii's history, according to Weather.com. The downpour also ended up being the second-highest rain total in U.S. history by a tropical storm, dumping 52.02 inches on the islands. That's second only to Hurricane Harvey's 60.58 inches last year.

As of Tuesday morning, there were 18 large wildfires burning across California.
