Launches $1 million in ads for champions in three primary races
WASHINGTON – America’s Credit Unions and its Political Action Committee (PAC) will spend a combined $8 million in independent expenditures and member communications during the 2026 midterm election season to help elect a credit-union friendly 120th Congress. America’s Credit Unions was among the top PACs for candidate contributions during the 2024 election cycle. The PAC is a testament to credit unions’ grassroots movement: the average contribution is less than $100 per donor per year, exemplifying widespread commitment to the industry’s future success through political advocacy.
“America’s Credit Unions is bipartisan and laser-focused on electing credit union champions. 146 million Americans rely on cooperative finance for safe, affordable financial services, and our political support helps candidates who understand the credit union difference,” said America’s Credit Unions President and CEO Scott Simpson. “As an advocacy organization, America’s Credit Unions works to secure an environment where credit unions thrive, and that requires strong relationships with lawmakers.”
PAC efforts begin this week where voters in states like California and Alabama will hear positive messages in support of candidates who have recognized the credit union difference with constituents and colleagues while supporting industry priorities like preserving credit unions’ federal income tax exemption, protecting interchange, and combating the rise in fraud. America’s Credit Unions worked hand-in-glove with league partners to help target messaging to credit union members.
Supported candidates and communications include a combined $1 million spend on three primary races:
- Rep. Young Kim (R-CA-40): Independent expenditure in direct mail and digital ads in a newly drawn district.
- Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA-32): A coordinated member communications campaign targeting credit union voters with direct mail and digital ads in partnership with California’s Credit Unions.
- Rhett Marques (R-AL-01): A coordinated member communications campaign targeting credit union voters with digital ads and direct mail in partnership with The League for a proven credit union champion running in an open seat.
The current political environment emphasizes the need for credit union representation, and America’s Credit Unions is committed to electing credit union champions across the country. These voices are paramount in defending credit unions’ ability to serve 146 million Americans, including teachers, first responders, military members, veterans, and small business owners.
America’s Credit Unions PAC ranks among the top five largest association PACs nationally. America’s Credit Unions PAC, a bipartisan organization, has a nearly 50/50 split of contributions to Democrats and Republicans.
