BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — ēCO Credit Union and the ēCO Credit Union Foundation both strongly believe in the importance of education. In March of 2023, ēCO Credit Union awarded two $2,500 A.L. Bratcher Scholarships, while the ēCO Credit Union Foundation awarded one $2,500 ēCO Credit Union Foundation Scholarship.

The A.L. Bratcher Scholarship has been awarded to high school seniors since 2011. The 2023-2024 A.L. Bratcher Scholarship recipients are Duane Carter Jr. and Heath Hope. Carter Jr. was a rising senior at Hewitt-Trussville High School. In addition to excelling academically, he is also involved in his church youth ministry, participates in FOCUS Club, Male Spokesperson for Girls In Engineering, and Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy. He plans to attend Missouri University of Science and Technology to study Civil Engineering. Hope graduated from Oak Grove High School in May. He had maintained an impressive 4.3 GPA, while also actively participating in extracurricular activities and volunteering in the community. He plans to attend the University of Alabama to study Business with a focus on Finance.

The ēCO Credit Union Foundation Scholarship was established in 2017 to help adults returning to school to change career paths or improve in their fields. Celia Dozier is the 2023-2024 ēCO Credit Union Foundation Scholarship recipient. She currently works as a high school teacher. Through her job, she supports her students to become excited about learning. Her goal is to foster higher-level thinking which requires critical thinking by all her students. She ultimately plans to mold young minds to want to achieve great things, and from that potentially increase the number of students seeking STEM and entrepreneurial careers. As a lover of science, she plans on pursuing on pursuing a new career path to educate on the largest organ of the body – the skin!

“We are continually impressed by the quality of the applications we receive for the A.L. Bratcher and ēCO Credit Union Foundation Scholarships,” said Joey Hand, ēCO Credit Union CEO. “We are thrilled to support three of our members as they further their education to make an impact in the community.”
