First Commerce Gives Back to the Tallahassee Community by Collecting Toys and Donating $5,000 to Toys for Tots

January 3rd, 2023 Lizeth George Lizeth George Credit Union News, Florida 0 comments

Tallahassee, FL – During the holiday season, many North Florida families and their children were able to experience the joy of giving, thanks to First Commerce Credit Union’s “Power of Gratitude” CD promotion. First Commerce pledged to donate to the Tallahassee Toys for Tots for every CD opened during the campaign in November and early December, up to $5,000. In addition to the monetary donation, all 14 First Commerce financial centers across North Florida and South Georgia served as donation sites to collect toys for children.

“First Commerce is committed to finding meaningful ways to give back to the communities we serve,” said Cecilia Homison, First Commerce CEO. “We were thrilled to offer a CD promotion that not only empowered people to enhance their financial well-being but also gave the community a way to show support for families experiencing financial hardships during the holidays through Toys for Tots. The response from the community has been incredibly heartwarming.”

Toys for Tots, a national charitable program run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve for 74 years, provides happiness and hope to less fortunate children each holiday season.  The toys, books, and other gifts collected and distributed by Marines and volunteers during the Christmas season offer children recognition, confidence, and a positive memory for a lifetime. Toys for Tots also provides support year-round to less fortunate families experiencing challenges and exceptional circumstances, sending a message of hope beyond the holiday season.

“I was excited when First Commerce contacted me to let me know that Toys for Tots was going to be the beneficiary of their CD campaign,” said Marc Dickieson, Toys for Tots Coordinator for Leon County. “We put a lot of effort into making Christmas special for the families we serve, and we could not fulfill our mission if we did not have community partners like First Commerce. I was overwhelmed when they reached out again and told me that they met their goal and would be donating $5,000.”

In addition to donating to the Tallahassee Toys for Tots, First Commerce financial centers in South Georgia also collected toys and made a $5,000 donation to the Valdosta Toys for Tots to be used for local families.

(L to R): Marc Dickieson (Toys for Tots Coordinator) accepts First Commerce’s $5,000 donation along with toys collected from Ayesha Muhammad (First Commerce Remote Services Assistant Manager).
