AmFirst’s Bill Connor receives United Way of Central Alabama’s Mervyn H. Sterne Memorial Award

December 14th, 2022 Lizeth George Lizeth George Alabama, Credit Union News 0 comments

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Dec. 14, 2022) – America’s First Federal Credit Union (AmFirst) announced today President and CEO Bill Connor was awarded the 2022 United Way of Central Alabama’s (UWCA) Mervyn H. Sterne Memorial Award for his leadership efforts during UWCA’s annual Pacesetter Campaign.

Raising more than $10.5 million in his role as Pacesetter Chair, Connor received this award as the individual that made the most significant contribution to the success of the campaign. Alongside his Pacesetter Campaign Team, Connor assisted 53 area companies as they conducted employee campaigns throughout the summer of 2022. A total of $10,647,653 was pledged for the campaign under Connor and his team’s leadership – which is $147,653 more than the $10.5 million goal set in place by UWCA.

The UWCA Pacesetter Campaign sets the stage annually for the company’s larger Fall Campaign. The 2022 UWCA Campaign — which represents both the Pacesetter and Fall Campaigns combined — raised more than $39 million, marking the largest campaign total in UWCA history.

“I am honored to have played a part in making Pacesetter history for the 2022 UWCA campaign,” said Connor. “AmFirst is a strong advocate for United Way and as a Pacesetter company, our employees reaffirmed that through their commitment to each other and to our community, which contributed to such a successful campaign. I want to share this award with my Pacesetter team who put forth an incredible effort to ensure that we had a successful outcome.  We look forward to seeing how the Birmingham community will benefit from the increased funding this campaign will provide.”

Funds raised through this campaign provide support for over 80 Birmingham organizations annually, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Crisis Center, The Literacy Council, Boys and Girls Club of Central Alabama, Goodwill and more.

“It truly is an honor to see how our hard work directly benefits the Birmingham community,” added Connor. “As a community credit union, one of our core values is supporting the communities our members live and work in and this campaign served as yet another avenue for AmFirst to give back.”
