YORKTOWN, VA. — Langley Federal Credit Union is proud to announce a $25,000 donation in support of United Way of the Virginia Peninsula’s Government Shutdown Relief Fund.
This fund is dedicated to helping our friends and neighbors who have been impacted by the government shutdown to help families access basic needs including food, housing support, and other essential services during this period of uncertainty.
This investment reinforces Langley’s long-standing commitment to the Peninsula community by supporting emergency assistance for households impacted by missed paychecks, delayed benefits, and rising food insecurity. The Relief Fund provides rapid-response aid for families facing difficult choices between housing, childcare, and essential needs, ensuring that help arrives when it’s needed most.
“Langley continues to invest in what matters—the people and families of our community,” said Charvālla West, President and CEO of United Way of the Virginia Peninsula. “As the shutdown puts pressure on working families across our region, this support helps us fulfill our mission to fight for the health, education, and financial stability of every person. It allows us to move quickly, strengthen our network of nonprofits, and ensure that no family has to face this uncertainty alone. That is the power of partnership and what community leadership looks like.”
United Way’s partnership with Langley builds on a shared history of collaboration and community investment. In addition to the financial support, Langley is hosting food collection sites at several Peninsula branch locations to help local food pantries meet rising demand.
UWVP’s Government Shutdown Relief Fund and food drive remain active through November, mobilizing resources for residents, nonprofits, and small businesses across the Peninsula.
“At Langley, we believe that when people are in need, we have a responsibility to act,” said Jerome Fowlkes, Chief Impact Officer at Langley Federal Credit Union. “Through our partnership with United Way, we’re helping ensure that families across the Peninsula have access to the support and resources they need during challenging times. This is what community means—standing together and lifting each other up.”
